Therapy for teachers

Teacher stress is no joke

Teaching is exhausting but you don’t have to be exhausted

You are expected to juggle tons of responsibility with limited resources and keep a smile on your face. Meetings that could have been an email, new policies, SLOs, standardized testing, professional development that doesn’t fit your subject or that seems unnecessary…the list goes on. Often on days when you are feeling like a rockstar in the classroom, you feel like you’re failing in other aspects of your life. And yet people still love to remind you “at least you get the summers off!” Even if you love your job, your students, and your colleagues, it’s just one part of your life. It’s important for you to take care of yourself and have interests outside of teaching.

Therapy for teachers–what can I accomplish?

As teachers, you are often reminded that you’re “doing it for the kids”. Well duh, but what about you? Who is looking out for you?

  • Therapy is a place to talk about all aspects of your life. You are more than your job.
  • Often teachers are experiencing high levels of anxiety, stress, and burnout. Therapy can be a place to process those emotions and help you find different ways to work through your thoughts and feelings.
  • Therapy can also help you reorganize your priorities and help you feel more like yourself.
  • Perhaps you’ve noticed teaching isn’t what it used to be and you’re interested in looking into other career fields. Therapy can be a safe space to explore this idea, too.

As a former high school teacher, I truly understand the numerous expectations and stressors that come with a job in education. That means you don’t have to preface any conversation with disclaimers like “of course I love the kids and colleagues I work with, but…” Whether you need to discuss the juggling act of teaching or need an unbiased place to be yourself and talk about anything BUT teaching, I would love to hold that space for you. You deserve time to slow down, reexamine your priorities, and just be. Therapy is the place for all of that.
